Listing Overview

Very clean and sorted 2001 BMW 330Ci manual.  Car was purchased as a weekend fun driver / HPDE / track night car, and it's been great at all of those things.  Ownership since 2017, and all of the major service items dealt with in the last 7500 miles and chronicled on this site.

Car laps fast at LRP and Thompson, has been completely reliable, and fastidiously maintained.  No cheap parts used in upgrades, and the car is tight, and everything works.  Interior has not been stripped, and all stock parts retained, so could be easily set back to the softer stock suspension in a weekend.  Still has stock sway bars and the 2.93:1 gear, so has nice driving characteristics, but as previously mentioned, is fast enough to keep up with, and pass, most of the traffic in the Intermediate Groups that I've been running.

Below is a list of work done, and the current setup as a weekend / track day car:

  • Falken Azenis R615, still staggered.  Understeer not a huge issue as these tires are very sticky, and can be dialed out with tire pressures.
  • H&R Sport springs
  • Koni Yellow shocks
  • Meyle ZHP lower control arms w/replacable ball joints
  • Stock replacement RTABs
  • New stock brake lines
  • Recent Ate rotors
  • Stop-Tech Sport brakes
  • Brake fluid flushed before every event, Ate Super Gold / Blue alternated.  Super Blue in use was NOS on my shelf.
  • New BMW DISA valve
  • All fluids changed regularly, checked before every event.  Oil is Liqui-Moly 5W-40 Leichtlauf.
  • VCG replaced
  • OFHG replaced
  • Cooling system completely replaced, including radiator and expansion tank bracket.
  • New fuel pump and E46 M3 fuel baffle.  Never starves for fuel in corners.

Everything works, and A/C blows cold.  New headlight bulbs, and many replacement nuisance items dealt with (washer jug, vacuum lines, etc...).  Car has every package except navigation, and interior in very nice original condition.

Note that the RACP has been inspected and is not cracked.  However, it has not been reinforced either...  This is on the list if I keep the car, but car does not have an LSD (LSD is on the list if I keep it), and has only been used for track time under my ownership.  The chassis is rust-free and in great shape, so everything is visible.  Also, the oil pump has not been messed with at all, nor has the oil pan gasket been replaced.  This is also on the list if I keep the car, but is also worth noting.

Even though I do use it on track, it is not abused, and I take extremely good care of my cars, so is probably over-maintained.  The engine is never revved above 6k as it's not necessary.

Needs:

  • Occasionally the sunroof shade will get stuck in the roof - I just leave the shade partially exposed.  However, this should be fixed.
  • A, B, and C pillar trim should be either replaced, or a weekend project.  I've re-adhesived it previously, and this time it may not be able to be saved.  Not hanging off, but doesn't look great.
  • Driver's seat has splitting seam at the top, and is a bit more worn than the pass. seat.  Both front seats have small tears in the seat backs where someone loaded in a bunch of stuff into the rear seat.
  • Typical small dents, scrapes, rock chips, and wear on the exterior.  Looks really good from about 10 feet, so is presentable.  Can be driven anywhere and still looks classy, as Topaz blue is a great color.
  • Exh. manifold heat shields replaced with flexible boom mat as heat shield had been bent in the past and rattled. This is not a problem and an upgrade as the underhood heat is greatly reduced, but worth mentioning.

That's about it.  It's a 19 year old car that you don't have to do anything with except jump in and drive.  Does not leak any oil or fluids, and all weatherstripping is nice and tight.  No wind noise, etc..., just a nice pre-facelift E46 in the best color.

Been looking for a track rat just like this! Is there any accident damage?
