Listing Overview

1971 Mercedes 250C, selling for my father who is thinning the herd and selling off cars that he no longer drives.

The car has an interesting history.  Was a european-delivery in Germany to a U.S. Army general, and has several binders full of maintenance records.  Was imported to the U.S. and the KMH speedo switched out to MPH, so miles are around 80k adjusting for the kilometers on the car when imported.  Was purchased from a dealer in Austin, TX, and driven back to OH in 2013.  At that time, the car ran perfectly, including working heat and A/C.

Overall Condition

Overall condition is nice.  Car is clean with no rust on the body, and just a bit of surface rust in the trunk under the trunk mat.  Paint is in great shape and would look even better with a buffing and waxing.  Some small dents and bumps, which are listed in the photos below.

Engine is in good shape.  Slight oil leak, and not sure if it's the pan or rear main.  Car mainly sits, so not sure if this may work itself out if driven.  No strange noises, and everything under the hood works great.  A/C does work but may require recharging; has been converted to R134A at some point in the past and holds a charge without issue.  Carburetors are Weber 32 / 36, and may require syncing, but car idles and drives fine without surging or flat-spots.

Chassis is really clean with no rust or visible issues.  Suspension is tight on both ends with no issues.  New Koni sport (non-adjustable) struts / shocks on both ends, new ATE rotors and pads F/R, so brakes are basically new.  From sitting it may require a fluid flush, but otherwise everything is in good shape.  Parking brake works.

Currently wearing later-style 14" alloy wheels, but steel wheels and hub caps are with the car (in the trunk).  Tires were new in 2014 and basically have zero miles on them.

Known Issues

  • Car was driven home and parked.  Only occasionally driven since 2013, but new tires were put on it around that time.  Have the original hubcaps and steel wheels (in the trunk).  Car really needs a basic going-through and check-over to make it road-ready, which would include basic maintenance (change oil, check fluids, safety check).
  • Clock does work but runs slow.
  • Fuel gauge reads low after 1/4 tank.
  • Carburetors need to be sync'd.
  • Shifter is vague and needs adjusting.  Not sure if there are bushings in the column or what, but shifter is sloppy.  No issues finding all gears, nor are there any transmission issues going forward.

Motivated seller at this point, so price is OBO.
