Quick suspension refresh on the Eurovan

Among the final punch-list items I've been knocking out on the vehicles is a long-awaited basic suspension refresh on the Eurovan, the ride quality of which has generally been degrading over the last few years. I went with a set of Koni "Special Red" shocks and struts, which are marketed as being a heavy-duty option for trucks and 4x4s.

I wasn't sure if this was the best solution for the Eurovan, which had a set of Bilstein HDs installed by the previous owner at about 50,000 miles. With 123,000 and change on the chassis now, they had seen some miles, as Bilsteins are generally thought to be good for 70,000 or so. The HDs really live in the same space as the Konis, which is to be a more touring vehicle-oriented option than the stock suspension without necessarily being the purists' choice for roadholding ability.

Over the years, I've really come to prefer Konis over Bilsteins for the compromise between handling abilities and ride comfort, and so far, these are a modest improvement over the tired HDs. It's not life altering, but it's definitely better than it was in terms of increasingly unpleasant rebounding and general harshness over broken pavement.

And with that, another long-simmering project is done, but the punch list still feels far too long for the time I have left with my local shop.
