The Audi Coupe project begins

The 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro finally left yesterday, en route to German Motors to get its timing belt replaced along with the water pump and thermostat. This initial stage is really just to get the car safe for road use so we can decide where to go from here.

I'm trying to avoid the mistake I made with my 1988 VW Scirocco, which I went way overboard on and ended up spending a bunch of money I didn't get back. So we're taking a conservative approach here to simply get it going down the road happily and without fear of a timing belt catastrophically grenading the engine.

I would potentially like to also refresh the suspension while it's at the shop, but I am not sure where we'll end up yet cost-wise at this initial stage. We'll get the basics sorted out, which also includes repairing the power steering that had such a significant leak at one point that it's now manual steering. It also needs tires, but that's a basic cost of doing business.

More to come.
