Although I am planning to sell the 1991 Saab 900 Turbo SE convertible, there was one job left to do that I will likely never enjoy but is essential to selling a car as close to your desired price as possible: working air conditioning.
This was a surprisingly good news story, as the compressor for the vintage 900 Turbo is long since out of production, and even Mike at Conntech - my go-to for hard-to-find Saab parts - came up empty. I found a used compressor 10 minutes from my house via car-part.com, which searches online inventory at salvage yards nationwide. Belleville Auto Salvage had a compressor on the shelf for something like 10 years from a '92 Turbo that they said was working when it was inventoried. I grabbed it for $50 and gave it to Mike.
Mike plugged it in, converted the fittings and hoses to R134, and with a new belt installed, the system came back to life. There were other repairs to the drier and condenser, but all in all, it wasn't as bad as some A/C repairs can be - and now there's one more done that the next owner will get to enjoy.
